White Magic
As I am shopping around for my country home, I'm pulling inspiration for the decor and overall feeling of the house. White! White walls allow objects, antiques and art to stand out. It creates contrast. The play between sleek and worn, new and old. It's magical....

Balance + Harmony
A look into Kay Sekimachi's world evokes a sense of harmony and calmness. Maybe because the fiber artist uses objects washed up on the shorelines of Hawaii during her vacations. Her pieces reflect the objects origins, but she has created jewelry and sculptures that have the perfect balance of hard and soft. I'm in love with the placement and display of her bits and pieces of bones, feathers, and seashells. The art work that hangs above her work table pays homage to my favorite artists, Paul Klee and Agnes Martin. The sepia tones throughout and the subtly worn woods all combined, create a wonderful exhibit of whimsy and comfort. Read more about Kay and her craft here.

Decorating With Vintage
This is decorating with vintage and salvaged at its best. Hillary Robertson and Alastair McCowan decorated their Fort Greene Brooklyn apartment with vintage European furniture and industrial finds. I appreciate the way they combined traditional lines with more modern. This helps to bring the spaces to life, but the fantastic architectural moldings and windows contribute also! Warped + Charming
A Country home in Sweden, owned by Claes and Pia Söderhielm is filled with objects that radiate soul Pia says. Their antiques and vintage wares were all found at auction and flea markets. When Pia is at auction shows and in stores, it is not unusual for her to find something charming and understated compared to expensive and exclusive, things that often take all the attention. It is the feeling of painting or of a craft that gives that object radiance. Discovering the details can take some time and it is important to give old things time.

Etched Grotesques
While researching inspiration for my next tattoo I came across these beautiful etchings and drawings by the Italian artist Lanfranco Quadrio. A bit grotesque and violent, but so detailed, textured and aged in appearance, and of course the sepia tones captured my attention right away. Have a look at his work at Galleria del Leone
