Truck! Vintage or New?

Truck!  A furniture line founded by Tokuhiko Kise + Hiromi Karatsu in 1997 in Osaka, Japan.  Using quality materials such as solid oak, maple, cedar woods, leather and steel, Truck develops furniture that looks vintage from the mid century with Scandinavian influences.  They say "We design the kind of furniture we want ourselves regardless of fashion and never pursue novelty for it's own sake"  

Unfortunately, the line can not be found in the U.S that I know of, but have a look at their showroom and furniture below.  It's so beautiful!  These pieces look like they are from the 1940's, 50's and 60's!  I think it's very important to gather inspiration from across the globe and see what other corners of the world are doing.  It's so helpful with expanding my own creativity.  I hope you agree as well!  Here is wishing you a day full of inspiration!  and truck yourself on over to Trucks website here.  I hope you enjoy!

Functional Art?

In any case, there is something to be said about a craft such as this to be passed down.  They are getting a head start at the ages of 7 and 9 years old.  Julian, Maris and Thijme receive 1 Euro for every piece of hand-built pine furniture they paint, and are only allowed to work 3 hours pr week due to the Dutch labor laws.  I love the video of them painting the furniture. Lucas Maassen + Sons is one serious factory.

The Perfect Collaboration

In 1924, the French designer Jean-Michel Frank partnered with Hermes, and introduced a collection of Frank's signature cubed forms, and classic shaped furniture.  In fact, he invented "classic"!   These classic pieces are being reintroduced to Hermes' new home line, Maison, this month in Paris.  The signature collection will be comprised of the Comfortable armchair and sofa, the straw-marquetry screen, a shagreen-covered vanity and the designer's X-base dining table.  I'm looking forward to the unveiling of this collection.  A collaboration made in Heaven!
